Ransomware Gets Personal In Latest Cyber Attack

Responsibility for a recent cyber attack on the renewable energy company, Invenergy was claimed by the notorious Ransomware gang REvil.

After detecting unauthorized activity on parts of its system, Invenergy LLC launched an investigation. While details such as how long the unauthorized activity was taking place have not been disclosed, the company did state that, “At no time were Invenergy’s operations impacted, and no data was encrypted.”

Statements from REvil via their dark website claim they have exfiltrated four terabytes of data after compromising Invenergy’s computer systems. Data such as contracts and project data are among the stolen files. Among the professional files, the cyber gang also claims that they have obtained “very personal and spicy” information regarding Invenergy CEO, Michael Polsky.

While the incident remains under investigation, Invenergy has further stated that they are complying with data breach disclosure regulations and they have “not paid and does not intend to pay any ransom.”
